What is a first pottery class actually like?
Two to three hours at a wheel or table with six to ten others. You make two or three rough pieces, the studio fires them, and you collect them a few weeks later.
Do you need to buy anything?
No. Every beginner class we checked includes clay, tools, glazing and firing. Costs only appear later, if you want studio access or your own wheel.
Can you go alone?
Yes, and most people do. Intro workshops are mostly individuals and pairs, and instructors tend to seat solo attendees together.
What happens after an intro class?
The usual next step is a six-week course, then open studio membership around $150–200 a month. That's where pottery stops being cheap.
